Karavana Teardrop Caravans

Karavana is a small boutique business run by Miguel and Lisa, partners in business and life .”Our teardrop caravan dream started when we spotted a teardrop in a back garden in Central Victoria. We stopped, knocked on the front door and talked to the owner who described her life of travelling to festivals with her teardrop in tow. The appeal of her freedom to go anywhere, anytime, the shape and design were irresistible and grew in our minds until we were driven to create one for ourselves…. and then more and more for others…..until we created a lifestyle surpassing the initial dream. Since that time we’ve made 100’s of trips in our teardrop and heard 100’s of teardrop stories on the way…we’ve been all over Tassie, up the east coast and throughout Victoria. We’ve modified the design and added accessories along the way to suit our needs. During the first trip down the west coast of Tassie we added a vent in the cabin, hooks, towel rail in the galley and a tarpaulin for protection. Our next teardrops had a galley with plenty of bench space, flyscreens and an extra window. Customer’s requests and feedback also keep us developing. At the moment we’re perfecting a slide- on tarp which fits onto the side of the teardrop.

Our Concept

One of our aims is to stay true to the materials, values and aesthetics of the teardrops heyday from the 30’s -50’s. Timber is used over fibreglass, copper over plastic, a quality stainless steel, recycled or hand fashioned accessory in favour of a mass produced  one. Our craftsmanship is thorough and thrice checked. We maintain contact with our customers. We promote sustainability through durable and repairable items and an environmentally friendly product which allows fuel efficiency and a local camping experience. Karavana teardrops embody freedom, accessibility and an eco- friendly camping choice. Discover areas close by: less petrol money and miles means a smaller footprint. Freedom means being able to decide your holiday destination, how you get there, when you’ll go and what you’ll eat on the way! Also the teardrop enables accessibility to any camp spot, without the need for a large towing car and ease of movement once parked. In the 50’s accessibility meant DYI enthusiasts salvaged sheet metal and wheels from old aeroplanes and jeeps after WW2 to weld and hammer together a TD then go on the fishing trip of his/her dreams! Karavana has taken the DYI popularity of the aerodynamic teardrop into its hands and fashioned some welcome extras….like a great gas cooker and power when needed. Our love for camping with all creature comforts, dedication to quality and artistic vision means each Karavana teardrop adheres to our principles of great design and durability”.
